Never change a winning team, a running system or a working equipment. When it comes to the question about the company which creates the “best” musical instruments, the heaviest hardware and the most solid sound equipment, musician can be very old-fashioned. Me as well – with some exceptions…
Some Guitarists swear that Gibson Guitars are the best. Others love their Stratocasters. There are also some players who prefer Ibanez or even Yamaha.
And of course we drummers also like to chat about Drum- and Cymbal-Companies. When it comes to Cymbals, i’m one of the Paiste-Fraction. No, i don’t say Paiste creates the best Cymbals, there are lots of other great companies around…
But i play Paiste since 30 Years and what can i say? I’ve made an over all positive experience. In all the years it happened only one time that a cymbal cracked – my poor 14″ Sound Edge Hi-Hat (Sound Creation Series). I was sad but could find another pair soon, also made by Paiste. I really have Paiste Cymbals that are older than 30 Years and still great!
You know, quality of the material is not everything. When i need a robust cymbal, for Crash or Ride, i’m first looking for Paiste. Because i know those are very solid and will stay alive a long time.
But when it comes to the sound i like to experiment! I love my Trash-Cymbals! Really, i even buy no-name Splash- and other Effect-Cymbals online – without testing or hearing them! Freaky, eh?
The cheaper the better! Next to all those expensive Super-Paiste-HiFi-Cymbals i often want really trashy and cheap sound effects. And i don’t want to pay more than 20 EUR for that :)
It can be impressing to add some strange sound into the drum-kit, give it a try.

I Love the Paiste cymbals as well. I have three full sets. One of my favorites is an 18 inch Paiste Formula 602 flat ride. Man, does that cymbal sing.
I want to post a blog about trap tables for those of you that use percussion or also function as percussionists in addition to being drummers. AND I WANT THE MANUFACTURERS TO PAY ATTENTION. I’M STARTING A STRIKE ON TRAP TABLES! I have devised a way to make trap tables at home that are just as attractive as what the companies make and can be any size you choose. Pearl makes a 12 X 12 trap tray that’s $39.00. LP makes two; 8 X 21 for $37.95 and 12 X 18 for $59.40. Of course MEINL TOPS THEM ALL: a 12 X 12 tray for $64.00!!!!!! That’s a 12 X 12 mountable piece of fibreglass for $64 plus shipping or tax. MAKE YOUR OWN!
email me for instructions and spread the news about the ridiculous prices the big companies charge. Jon
