Unforgivable Sick Stick Grips!

It’s no joke. I really often see guys who are holding their sticks in ways that make it nearly impossible to hit a drum without being hurt. I start with a typical beginners-grip: The Deadly Index Finger!

Please keep in mind, you are always allowed to experiment with different ways of holding your sticks, for fun, for special tricks or whatever…

…but never use these “Sick Stick Grips” for usual drumming.

Have a look at the picture and make sure that you never hold your sticks this way. A Drum-Stick is not a knife and you are not going to cut a T-Bone Steak with it.

Sick Sticks: The Deadly Index Finger

The index finger it straightened out; positioned on the upper side of the stick! This will kill every rebound, the stick can’t move free and your stroke will only make a dead sound.

You won’t be able to play fast and loud, or cool at all. And if you try it anyway, you probably will hurt your index finger.

So pay attention on this Sick Stick Grip and often look at your hands while playing – especially when you are a beginner and don’t have a teacher who corrects you.
