Whitesnake’s New Album “Good to be bad”!
Posted on April 18, 2008
A pre/review of the new studio record
The alarm clock rang this morning and i thought “shit”.
But then i realized that today was not a normal day. Something special would happen on April 18, and then i remembered:
After nearly 19 years one of the world’s biggest Hardrock Bands would release their new studio album! Just today!
Wow, this fact really helped me jump out of bed…
The Bad Boys are back!
I’m talking about David Coverdale’s Whitesnake. And the new CD “Good To Be Bad” which also could be named “Good To Be Back”.
The singer is a living legend and his band is the same. They play Hardrock, they play on the highest level, they don’t wear masks and they don’t need drugs to play well. Whitesnake don’t mess up everything and they don’t send the world into a disaster…
Whitesnake light up the day and they do it loud! They did it in the 80’s and they still do so in in 2008.
Best years!
I hate those people who always talk about the 80’s when Whitesnake celebrated their most successful time.
Why are people living in the past? It’s scary! Don’t they have a future? Don’t they have ears?
Yes, Whitesnake is a band of my youth as well and i also remember the early albums that i still love very much. But when the year 1987 came and a brand new Whitesnake rocked the stage - it was like a revelation for me.
This was the first time in my life that i thought “forget about the old times and step into the future”!
Are you ready and willing?
So i will put on some nice shoes and decent clothes and prepare myself to walk into town and buy that first official studio record since 1989. Nineteen Years since then. My God.
The last time i did this walk it was for “Slip of the Tongue”. I haven’t had a single gray hair then. I was 19 Years younger. There was no internet. Records still were released on vinyl first.
I remember i was at home. My Girl-friend came back from work and said, like it was nothing special: “There’s a new Whitesnake Album out. I saw it on a poster in the city. It’s called Slip… of somewhat, i don’t know”.
I hit and run
2 seconds later i was in town, shivering and shaking and running into the next record store. For people who don’t understand: Down in the 80’s guys really were looking forward to new albums. Everybody was proud to be the first who bought the latest album of a fat band. Like i’ve said, there was no internet.
There it was, the album. It looked great and i turned it to read the credits. A Tommy Aldridge on drums, i didn’t know him but the name was cool. And - i’ve made a small jump - Steve Vai on guitars! Steve Vai was the state-of-the-art-mega-guitar-hero and now he played with Whitesnake.
Another 2 seconds later i was back home and - in a ceremonial manner - i turned the record player on.
Take me with you, take me far away
It set another milestone in my life. Like “1987″, “Slide it in”, “Saints and Sinners” and “Live in the heart of the city” did before.
And time moved on.
The girl-friend and me got married some years later. A couple of years later we split again. Our son is nearly adult now. The fine new car i bought 4 years after “Slip of the tongue” is very old now, still working but making noises - like the same old record player that is mainly decoration, a relict of forgotten decades.
Some people died in the meantime, others were born. Life goes on and Whitesnake is still there.
Here i go again
And here i go again on my own, going down the lonely road to the record store that sells no records anymore.
I already know that the fabulous Chris Frazier is on drums and i think the line up of Whitesnake 2008 is the best of all the numerous line ups of the past.
I’m looking forward to “Good to be bad”, really. And i don’t want to think back any longer. There have been other Whitesnake Albums in the past. It was another time, they had their stories to tell. It’s long time gone.
It’s April 18, 2008, and i will listen to the new Whitesnake Album “Good to be bad”. I will listen to it as a fan, a musician, a drummer, a friend and a man.
But now it’s 10am and the stores open. I need to go, have a date with a great band of 2008.
